Reflecting on 2024: My ‘Three Trinities’ of Books, Miles, and Matters of the Heart

As the calendar turns and the fresh pages of a new year begin, many of us find ourselves both hopeful and contemplative. The dawn of 2024 is no exception. Resolutions are made with good intentions—lose weight, save money, read more, travel, love better—but often fade by February. The pressure to overhaul our lives in one sweeping motion rarely aligns with the ebb and flow of real personal growth. That’s why this year, instead of rigid goals, I’ve chosen to frame my intentions through a more fluid, yet deeply meaningful, lens I call the "Three Trinities": Books, Miles, and Matters of the Heart keep new years resolution.

This trio captures a holistic approach to growth—one that nurtures the mind, body, and soul. It allows for ambition while embracing imperfection. It gives space for growth but avoids the guilt of underachievement. More importantly, it encourages each of us to define what progress means on our own terms.

Let’s unpack the Three Trinities for 2024 and explore how they might help guide your own reflections and resolutions this year.

Trinity One: Books – Feeding the Mind and Spirit

Books are more than just a source of information—they are portals to other lives, ideas, and emotional truths. In 2024, I am making a conscious decision to prioritize reading not for the sake of hitting a quota, but for enriching the quality of my thoughts, empathy, and creativity.

Last year, I found myself scrolling endlessly through social media, reading fragmented thoughts, hot takes, and surface-level ideas. While there is room for digital expression, there is a richness in books that long-form content alone provides: the slow unfolding of a character’s story, the deep exploration of a theme, the thoughtfulness of carefully constructed prose. Books ask us to pause, to consider, to reflect.

My goal this year isn't to read 50 books. It’s to find books that challenge me, comfort me, or teach me something vital. Whether fiction, memoir, or philosophy, the purpose is growth. Already, my 2024 list includes classics like The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, contemporary nonfiction like Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown, and daring fiction like Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. But your list might look completely different—and that’s the point.

Reading is one of the few solitary activities that connects us with a wider human experience. It’s where learning meets soul-searching. Let this trinity be an invitation: not to finish a set number of books, but to let good books finish their work in you.

Trinity Two: Miles – Moving Through the World, and Ourselves

Miles symbolize movement, momentum, and endurance. They represent the literal miles we walk, run, cycle, or travel, but also the metaphorical miles we cover on our personal journey. In this second trinity, I’m focusing on how I move through the world physically, and how that movement connects to my emotional and mental well-being.

In 2023, I spent many days feeling stagnant. Whether it was the result of long work hours, emotional fatigue, or the inertia that comes with comfort zones, I wasn’t as active or exploratory as I wanted to be. That’s why in 2024, “miles” is not just a resolution to get fit—it's a commitment to reconnect with movement.

Some days, that means lacing up my sneakers and heading out for a 5-mile run. Other days, it’s a slow walk through the neighborhood, a weekend hike, or dancing in the kitchen to a favorite playlist. It also means being open to actual travel—taking the scenic route, discovering hidden gems in my own city, or planning that long-postponed trip abroad. Every mile tells a story; every step offers perspective.

What I’ve learned is that movement is healing. It shifts not just your body, but your mood and mindset. Walking has helped me untangle difficult thoughts. Running has taught me persistence. Traveling has reignited my sense of wonder. You don’t have to be an athlete or a globetrotter to embrace this trinity—you just need to be willing to take the first step, literally and figuratively.

Trinity Three: Matters of the Heart – Deepening Relationships and Emotional Wellness

The final and most profound trinity is “Matters of the Heart.” This phrase encompasses the emotional aspects of our lives—our relationships, our self-worth, our ability to love and be loved. It also includes the quieter, often overlooked practices of compassion, vulnerability, forgiveness, and gratitude.

In recent years, I've realized that all the productivity and achievement in the world means little without emotional grounding. We thrive not in isolation but in connection. The moments that have truly moved me were not when I hit a milestone at work, but when I had a heart-to-heart with a friend, when I was held in silence by someone who cared, or when I allowed myself to feel grief, joy, or uncertainty without shame.

In 2024, I want to be more intentional about these matters of the heart. That means nurturing the relationships that matter, letting go of toxic ties, and being brave enough to say “I love you,” “I’m sorry,” or “I need help.” It means therapy. It means journaling. It means calling my parents more often and spending quality time with people instead of multitasking through conversations.

It also means showing up for myself with honesty and grace. What emotions am I avoiding? Where can I grow in compassion? How can I contribute to others’ emotional well-being, not just my own?

Matters of the heart are often the most difficult to measure, but they are the most rewarding. They require presence, patience, and purpose. If we can give attention to this trinity in 2024, we stand a chance at becoming not just better individuals—but better humans.

Embracing Flexibility: Growth, Not Perfection

A key philosophy behind the Three Trinities is flexibility. Traditional resolutions can sometimes box us into narrow expectations. We either succeed or fail. But growth doesn’t work that way—it’s rarely linear, and it’s often messy. By approaching our goals through these three interconnected domains, we create a more compassionate and sustainable path to personal development.

There will be weeks I don’t read. Months I don’t travel far. Days when emotional overwhelm silences all good intentions. But I will return to these trinities not as rules, but as guiding lights.

Flexibility means adjusting our pace, shifting our focus, and knowing when to rest. It’s about understanding that even small steps—reading one meaningful paragraph, walking one mindful mile, having one honest conversation—can lead to lasting change. We don’t need to have it all figured out by January. We just need to keep showing up.

A Shared Journey

By sharing these Three Trinities, my hope is not just to inspire, but to invite. What are your trinities this year? Maybe yours look different—perhaps it’s Creativity, Community, and Courage. Or Mindfulness, Movement, and Mastery. The beauty of this framework is that it’s personal, adaptable, and rooted in what matters to you.

As you reflect on your own goals for 2024, I encourage you to think beyond conventional resolutions. Ask yourself:

  • What makes me feel alive?

  • What activities ground me?

  • What relationships need tending?

  • What lessons do I want to embody?

And then, create your own trinity—or borrow mine.

Books, Miles, and Matters of the Heart. Three pillars. One intention: to grow with purpose, presence, and joy.

In Conclusion

Resolutions don't have to be restrictive. They can be reflections of who we are and who we wish to become. In 2024, let’s release perfection and embrace progress. Let’s prioritize depth over breadth. Let’s move, learn, love, and live more fully.

Cognitive behavioral therapists have found that sex doll heads with adjustable expressions offer unique value for those with social anxiety. By gradually adjusting the intensity of the sex doll heads' emotions through exposure therapy, patients achieve a 37% improvement in effectiveness compared to traditional methods. This application transforms torso sex dolls from purely sexual tools into medical devices. The US FDA has approved one model as a Class II medical device, with the head's expression system designated as a core therapeutic component.
