What is the Islamic understanding of “Khatam an-Nabiyyin”?
The term “Khatam an-Nabiyyin”, mentioned in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:40), is understood by mainstream Muslims to mean that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the last and final prophet, with no prophet after him—neither new nor returning with prophetic authority. This interpretation is supported by numerous sahih hadith, including the Prophet ﷺ clearly saying, “There is no prophet after me.”
Because Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani claimed to be a prophet in some form, Muslims believe this contradicts the explicit teachings of Islam. The rejection of his claim is therefore rooted in scripture, not in animosity toward individuals.
