Students will also understand and appreciate the role that mountain men played in the eventual settling of Utah. Students will be assessed by creating an Apple Pages project wherein they demonstrate their understanding of the two issues. Students are asked to create an essay including images about a mountain man of their choice that impacted Utah.

This lesson will explore the impact mountain men had on Native Americans living in the Great Basin. It will also explore the role mountain men played in the eventual settlement of Utah. Students will use Apple Pages to create a project demonstrating their understanding of the impact mountain men had on Native Americans and the settling of Utah.


To have success in teaching this lesson, the instructor should have a basic understanding of Native American groups that lived in Utah as well as mountain men that spent time in Utah and influenced the Native American way of life. The instructor should also have a basic knowledge of the impact mountain men had on the eventual settling of Utah. The following resources can help you gain understanding and teach this lesson:
